About the role
This is a specialist construction design role inside a well-established signage manufacturing business in North Brisbane. You’ll be designing large-scale signage structures — pylons, cages, roof signs, and complex assemblies — from concept through to shop drawings ready for fabrication and engineer sign-off.
This isn’t a graphic design or artwork role. It’s a technical, engineering-minded position for someone who understands how structures go together, what welding and steel fabrication looks like in practice, and how to design something that can actually be built safely and compliantly.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing pylon signs, cages, structural frames, roof signs, and large-scale signage assemblies
- Producing detailed shop drawings and construction documentation for fabrication and engineer review
- Designing footings and structural connections with an understanding of load and installation requirements
- Working within relevant building codes and structural standards
- Collaborating with fabrication, installation, and engineering teams throughout each project
- Ensuring all designs are practical, buildable, and compliant before they go anywhere
What we’re looking for
- Solid background in construction design, structural drafting, steel fabrication, or a closely related field
- Demonstrable experience designing large structures — pylons, frames, footings, or similar
- Strong shop drawing ability to a construction and fabrication standard
- Working knowledge of welding, steel fabrication methods, and structural connections
- Understanding of relevant building codes and structural compliance requirements
- Proficiency in CAD software — AutoCAD or equivalent
- Someone who takes accuracy seriously and understands the consequences of getting it wrong
Bonus points for
- Direct experience in signage manufacturing or architectural metalwork
- Exposure to engineer certification and sign-off processes
- Knowledge of illuminated signage systems or large-format print integration
