Building Estimator | Melbourne

Our client is looking for an Estimator to join their Bid team to focus on the general building and construction tender opportunities.  To be successful in this role, you will need previous experience estimating for projects within the commercial fit out and or civil sectors. 

The role:

• You will be responsible, or the end-to-end management of tenders assigned and depending on the size/complexity of tenders you will be supported with field technicians and specialist trade personnel to verify the scope, undertake site walks. Also, you will have a presentation specialist who will develop the document.

• You will be the point of contact for tender clarifications during the post tender phase and prior to project award.  Post award you will need to communicate the handover to the operations team which is critical to a successful outcome at the completion of the project.  

• You will build a cost base and conforming tender relying on estimating first principles to undertake the scope of work in alignment with the tender documentation.

• After successfully developing a compliant conforming tender, you will then need to assess if there is opportunity to offer a non-conforming bid securing a strategic and competitive advantage by providing increased value or quality as well as cost savings or schedule efficiencies. 

• You’ll need a good understanding of the financial aspects of projects as they relate to cashflow is critical to managing the post tender negotiation and prior to contract award. 

• Maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors that you engage as this is critical to securing accurate and timely pricing for projects. You will need to communicate the expectations when requesting tender pricing from subcontractors to ensure that the tender response from the subcontractor aligns with their commercial and compliance objectives.

• They use a first principles web based estimating platform. As part of this role, you will be required to review and maintain the rates-based templates in their estimating software.

• Regular review and maintenance of estimating templates is required to ensure that the cost base is accurate and fit for purpose.

Requirements/Capabilities:

• Having worked within the building trade
• Experience estimating for a wide range and type of projects within the commercial fit out and or civil sectors. 
• Engagement of specialised contractors and supporting trades for subcontractor pricing and packages of work. 
• Coordinating with local, state, and national statutory authorities to ensure compliance with building codes and permits.
• Carry out onsite inspections to verify scope and detail prior to tender preparation. 
• Ability to use MS Project, Smartsheet for development of project schedule.
• Ability to use online web based estimating software Proest.
• Understanding of Client Engineering Documentation and processes.
• Willingness to travel interstate if required.
